26th Oct: Meet the Curator Talk & Tour: Witchcraft & Superstition in Tudor times

Celebrate the Halloween season at The Mary Rose with this unique talk and tour experience, which delves into the dark world of Tudor superstition.  Meet our Curator, Hannah Mathews and enjoy a riveting talk that will take you on a journey through the shadowy and dark history of Tudor witches and wisewomen, healing and superstition.

Uncover the fine line between medicine and witchcraft and explore what life would have been like for Tudor healers, apothecaries and wise women who were often a step away from deadly accusations of witchcraft.  How did the Tudors protect themselves from dark magic and witches, how could healing with herbs be misconstrued as witchcraft and what were the punishments? And is there any evidence of superstition aboard the Mary Rose?

After your talk, explore the museum with a fascinating behind the scenes tour led by one of our expert guides. Enjoy access into our Reserve Collection not accessible to the public enjoy refreshments in our wardroom and use of our exterior viewing balcony with views of the Solent and HMS Victory.
