Mary Rose - Terms and Conditions for use.

While the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard 'All Attraction' ticket no longer exists, there are various ticket options available for visitors to purchase to make the most of their experience. The Mary Rose has various combination tickets that can be purchased on site that can give discounted access to other local attractions.  Additional ticket options are available for other dockyard based attractions, which can be bought on site or via the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard website. 

General information

  1. All attractions and entertainments are subject to availability. Please ensure you have checked our website before your visit to confirm attraction availability and are aware of any closures.

  2. All proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales are used to support the charitable purposes of the Mary Rose Trust, which include promoting and assisting in the display, understanding and enjoyment by the public of the Mary Rose Museum.

  3. Ticket purchases online are limited to up to 14 tickets per transaction. 

  4. We regret that with the exception of assistance and guide dogs, animals are not permitted on site or in the museum.

  5. No professional photography/videography equipment is permitted within the museum without prior arrangement with our media team.

 

Opening times

  1. The Mary Rose Museum reserves the right to change opening times, prices, validity of ticket duration and availability of the museum without notice. 

  2. Museum and site opening times are 10am - 5.30pm (last ticket sold at 4:30pm with last entry to the museum at 4:45pm) during Summer and 10am - 5pm (last ticket sold at 4:00pm with last entry to the museum at 4:15pm) during Winter, 7 days a week excluding certain dates and as per restrictions below.

Ticket terms and conditions

  1. Tickets give 12 months unlimited entry from the date purchased, excluding some special events. We operate a policy of no refunds or exchanges for tickets bought at admissions or booked online.

  2. All prices are inclusive of VAT at the current rates and are correct at the time of entering information onto the system.

  3. Mary Rose Museum reserves the right to change prices at any time.

  4. Gift aided tickets are subject to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) regulations and are therefore not eligible for a refund. More information on gift aid can be found here.

  5. In the event of losing a ticket please provide your proof of purchase i.e. a receipt or online booking reference.

  6. Tickets must not be sold or resold and are non-transferrable. You may be asked for ID to match your ticket name, if you are unable to provide matching ID, Mary Rose reserves the right to refuse entry.

  7. The management reserves the right to refuse entry, if for any reason they deem there is a risk to Mary Rose Museum and the attractions and the public or staff on site.

  8. Improper use of the ticket will result in confiscation and a request for payment for admission.

  9. Children’s tickets are valid for individuals ages 5 – 15. Admission for children under 5 is free. Under 16’s must be accompanied by adult.

  10. General admission tickets cannot be used on educational visits

  11. Group tickets are valid for 1 day visit only 

  12. Educational workshops cancelled within 21 days of the visit date wil incur the cost of the workshops booked. 

  13. Registered disabled visitors to the Mary Rose should purchase an appropriate ticket according to their age. They are eligible to bring along a carer for free. A complimentary day ticket can be allocated to the carer on request at the ticket office or at the Museum front desk on the day of arrival - there is no need to prebook this. 

  14. Local Annual Passes are not vaild during bespoke ticketed events at the Mary Roe, eg the Festival of Christmas

Event Tickets

  1. Tickets are not valid for any special events taking place at the attractions or within Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Please see our website page for upcoming events.

  2. Special Events Tickets e.g. for LEGO or Festival of Christmas, are only valid for the day of purchase and do NOT allow entry on any other date and for any other attraction.

  3. For certain events, concessionary rates are available for Seniors (60+) and students (ID may be required).

  4. Certain Special Event Tickets e.g: LEGO, do not include full access to the Mary Rose.

Promotions

All vouchers/tickets and offers must be redeemed on site with a member of the Mary Rose team before the expiry date shown. Your ticket is valid for one year unlimited entry (excluding special event days) from date of purchase and can only be used for the attractions highlighted on the ticket. Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be combined or used in conjunction with any other offers. Tickets cannot be exchanged and are non-transferable and can only be redeemed by the named winner or voucher holder. Vouchers cannot be redeemed online or over the phone. Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be sold or re-sold. Promotional offers or vouchers that have been lost or stolen cannot be replaced. Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be used against the cost of special event tickets.

Data Policy

Mary Rose Museum will not pass on your personal data to any third parties, except those necessary to complete the ticket purchase. Your contact details may be held on a database and mailing list. You may be contacted with information we feel may be appropriate and relevant to you from time to time. If you do not wish to receive mailings from us please notify museum@maryrose.org giving your full name and address (as per your booking) and you will be removed from the mailing list. All rights under the 1998 Data Protection Act (UK) and any subsequent revisions will apply. Please refer to our privacy policy for more information relating to online information.

Website Terms and Conditions

By accessing this website and/or placing an order you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions set out below. Before placing an order, if you have any queries relating to these terms and conditions, please email us at museum@maryrose.org. If you do not agree to be bound by these terms and conditions you may not use or access this website. Please also read our privacy policy, which forms a part of these terms and conditions and covers personal information provided by you, security and use of “cookies”. We reserve the right to modify or withdraw this website without notice to you and we shall not be liable to you or any third party for any such modification or withdrawal. We may also change these terms and conditions from time to time without notice to you and your continued use of the site following such change shall be deemed to be your acceptance of any change. Changes will apply to any subsequent orders received.

Product information

Prices are subject to change without notice and inclusive of value added tax (VAT) at the current rates. Products are subject to availability. As there is a delay between the time when the order is placed and the time when the order is accepted, the stock position relating to particular items may change. If an item you have ordered becomes out of stock before we accept your order, we shall notify you as soon as possible.

Purchase of tickets

When you place an order on our website we will email you an acknowledgement of your intended order. At the time of purchase of the order the purchase contract will be made and you will be charged. Any discounts triggered by the entry of a promotional code will not be applied until the order is accepted but will be detailed on the invoice. We reserve the right to reject any offer to purchase by you at any time in our sole discretion. However, non-acceptance of an order is most likely to result from one of the following: the product ordered being unavailable from stock; our inability to obtain authorisation of payment; the identification of an error within the product information including price or promotion. If there are any problems with your order we shall contact you.

Payment

All prices are inclusive of VAT at the current rates and are correct at the time of entering information onto the system. All cardholders may be subject to validation checks and authorisation by the card issuer. If the issuer of your payment card refuses to or does not, for any reason, authorise payment to us, we will not be liable for any delay or non-delivery. Processing is reserved against your card at the time the order is placed, but will not be charged until the order is dispatched. If for some reason a purchase fails, due to problems with payment details, we will attempt to contact you by phone or email within one working day. Once your order has left our warehouse we will send you an email to confirm that your order is on its way.

Security

The Mary Rose Museum is committed to the security of users' personal information and we have procedures in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of information under our control. Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary. We have measures in operation to safeguard our user database and access to this database is restricted internally. When you shop on our site, we collect certain personal information from you (for example your name, email address and billing address). All such information is held on secure servers and Mary Rose Museum fully complies with all applicable Data Protection and consumer legislation and will treat all your personal information as fully confidential. Intellectual property

You agree that all copyrights, trademarks and all other intellectual property rights in the material and content of this website shall remain vested in us or our licensees. You acknowledge and confirm that the material and content contained within the website is made available for your personal non-commercial use only and that you may (if necessary to make a purchase) download such material and content onto only one computer hard drive for such purpose. Any other use of the material and content of this website is strictly prohibited.

Limitation of liability

Notwithstanding our reasonable endeavours to verify the accuracy of the information appearing on this website, we make no express or implied warranties in relation to its accuracy. Our liability to you in the event of our breach of any of these terms and conditions shall be limited to refunding any money you may have already paid for product that you have not received or that you have returned within the agreed time scales and in the required condition. So far as the law allows, we shall not be liable to you for any other loss or damage whatsoever. Your statutory rights as a consumer and your cancellation rights are not affected by these terms and conditions. Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury resulting from our negligence or that of our employees or agents.

Waiver

Any delay or failure on our part to exercise our rights under these terms and conditions shall not be construed as a waiver of any prior or subsequent breach by you of any provision.

Governing law

The laws of England shall govern the contract between us and any dispute between us will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England.

Accessibility

The Mary Rose welcomes all visitors. The site is within a working Naval Base and certain areas may present difficulties to visitors who use wheelchairs, with a restricted mobility or who are visually impaired. As a safety precaution, we encourage all these visitors to be accompanied by a carer.

Registered disabled visitors to the Mary Rose should purchase an appropriate ticket according to their age. They are eligible to bring along a carer for free. A complimentary day ticket can be allocated to the carer on request at the ticket office or at the Museum front desk on the day of arrival - there is no need to prebook this.

If there are any changes as to how The Mary Rose will use your personal data, we will notify you by directly sending you a notification. Personal Data We Collect

The Mary Rose collects a small amount of data so that we can provide you with the best experience possible and to ensure we’re running our operations efficiently.

Most of the data collected will be provided by yourself on your terms, but in some cases, such as when using our sites, information from cookies and Google Analytics is sent to us.

Except as set out in this Privacy Statement, NO data that is collected, is given, shared or sold to any third parties, excelpt those necessary to complete the ticket purchase. 

Data given to us by you

We collect content of your files and communications when necessary to provide you with the products/services you use. For example, if you contact The Mary Rose by email, or by post, your data, such as email and/or postal address will be used to contact you regarding the reason as to which you contacted us with. Where appropriate, we may ask your permission to keep your data on a secure database, so as to keep you updated on events and news from The Mary Rose ONLY.

The transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure and we cannot guarantee the security of data while you are transmitting it.  No data transmission can be 100% secure and any data you transmit is at your own risk.

We have procedures and security features in place to keep your data secure once we receive it. We won’t share your information with any other organisations for marketing, market research or commercial purposes, and we don’t pass on your details to other websites.

Data we ask for

Any data we ask you for comes from:

  • you filling in forms on our website or by corresponding with us by phone, email, mail, in person or otherwise. This includes information you provide when you register for our newsletter, or make a donation, make enquiries about your membership or about The Mary Rose and when you report a problem with our website;

  • literature such as membership leaflets and events booking forms in which it is your choice as to what data you provide us with.  

It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and current.  Please keep us informed if your personal data changes during your relationship with us.

In this case, we ask for:

Name and contact data. We collect your first and last name, email address, postal address and phone number. This is so that we can send you the appropriate materials regarding your purchase, and allow us to keep you informed of news and events from The Mary Rose ONLY where you have given your consent.

Payment data. We collect data necessary to process your payment if you make a purchase, such as your details of your payment method (such as a credit card number), and the security code associated with your method of payment, or information regarding your bank account, such as sort code and account number, so as to create an instruction to your bank or building society to pay by Direct Debit.

Data given from external sources

Google Analytics, in conjunction with cookies, provides us with data regarding those who use www.maryrose.org, www.maryroseshop.org and our Mary Rose App.

Information collected in Google Analytics include the following:

Demographic data. Google Analytics collects and summarises your demographic data such as age, gender, country and preferred language through the use of cookies.

Usage data. Google Analytics collects and summarises data on how you interact with our website and app including:

  • Product use data. This is data on how you have used our website including any purchases you have made, and how long you’ve remained on any page on our website.

  • Device data. Data is collected about your device and the network you use to connect to our website and app. It includes data about the operating systems, browser, and service operator you use.

  • Interests and favourites. Data is collected so as to categorize what type of things interest you as a user via the use of cookies. Categories allow us to see if you’re a ‘travel buff’ or ‘outdoor enthusiast’, and whether you like ‘arts & entertainment’ or ‘reference/general reference/dictionaries & encyclopaedias’.

  • Location data. Data regarding your location is collected, which can be either precise or imprecise depending on your GPS settings.

 

Google Ads, in conjunction with cookies, provides us with anonymised data regarding the use of certain search terms and demographic information.  This data is used to improve and personalise your experience by showing you adverts that may be of interest to you.

ALL data gathered from external sources are used for report purposes ONLY and allows us to ensure we are providing the right services and content needed for our users. We can’t personally identify you using your data as data from these external sources is anonymised.

 

How We Use Personal Data

The Mary Rose uses the data collected for the following purposes:

  • to provide the necessary products and services we offer in order to comply with any contract between you and us;

  • which includes using data to improve and personalise your experiences, for example, through social media to show you adverts that may be of interest to you;

  • where it is necessary for our legitimate interests, i.e. to operate our charity/company and provide (including improving and personalising) the products and services we offer;

Providing and improving our products. We use anonymised data, to analyse use of our sites in our legitimate interests in order to provide and improve the products and services we offer. We use the data you’ve provided to carry out your transactions with us and to provide our products and services to you, as necessary for the performance of a contract between you and us. For example, we may contact you by email or post to inform you when a membership is ending, in response to queries submitted to any of the sites, in regards to a purchase of a product or service, to inform you of any news or events about The Mary Rose ONLY. Additionally, there is the option to sign up for email subscriptions in which your data will only be used to send a newsletter to you regarding any updates about The Mary Rose.  Where you have previously purchased a product or service from us, we may send you communications about further products or services from us that we think may be of interest to you or updates about The Mary Rose.  

Opting Out. You can ask us to stop sending marketing messages at any time by clicking “unsubscribe” on the emails we send you or by contacting us at privacy@maryrose.org.  Where you opt out of receiving these marketing messages, this will not apply to personal data provided to us as a result of a product / service purchase.

Cookies

The Mary Rose uses cookies (small text files placed on your device) on our sites to help collect data. We use analytical cookies so that our sites will remember you and how you’ve used the website or app, every time you return. Analytical cookies works in conjunction with Google Analytics and enables us to monitor the health of our website and which pages of our website are the most visited.

The data collected is anonymous and we’re unable to identify you personally.

We take steps to ensure that the data we collect under this privacy statement is processed according to the provisions of this statement and the requirements of applicable law wherever the data is located.

Retention of personal data

The Mary Rose retains personal data for as long as necessary to provide the products and services and fulfil the transactions you have requested, or for other essential purposes such as complying with our legal obligations, resolving disputes and enforcing our agreements. Some data, such as full name only, can be retained for all time, unless otherwise stated, due to archiving and charity records. For example, we keep records of names of divers on The Mary Rose, unless otherwise stated.

We are very grateful for all donations to The Mary Rose and we keep records of donors as follows:

  • on donor board within the museum – where you donate to the construction of the museum or to an endowment fund for the benefit of The Mary Rose, we will ask for your consent to include your full name on a donor board;

  • on an electronic roll of honour displayed within the museum and available on the sites – where you have made any donation to the Mary Rose, including money or your time (e.g. volunteers, divers), we will ask for your consent to include your first name, surname and title on an electronic roll of honour.

We will also keep records of all donors on our main database for the purpose of keeping and maintaining charity records.   

Your Rights

Where processing of your personal data is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time.

You have the following rights.  You can exercise these rights at any time by contacting us at privacy@maryrose.org.  You have the right:

  • to ask us not to process your personal data for marketing purposes. We will inform you (before collecting your data) if we intend to use your data for such purposes or if we intend to disclose your information to any third party for such purposes;
  • to ask us not to process your personal data where it is processed on the basis of legitimate interests provided that there are no compelling reasons for that processing;
  • to ask us not to process your personal data for scientific or historical research purposes, where relevant, unless the processing is necessary in the public interest.
  • to request from us access to personal information held about you.  We aim to complete all access requests within 1 calendar month and provide the information free of charge;
  • to ask for the information we hold about you to be rectified if it is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • to ask for data to be erased provided that the personal data is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, you withdraw consent (if the legal basis for processing is consent), you exercise your right to object, set out below, and there are no overriding legitimate ground for processing, the data is unlawfully processed, the data needs to be erased to comply with a legal obligation or the data is children’s data and was collected in relation to an offer of information society services;

Guarantee

Under the United Kingdom’s Distance Selling Regulations you have the right to cancel your order. To do so you must inform us in writing within 7 days from the day after receipt of your order to our Customer Services Team. Returning any item within 7 days will also be taken as notice of cancellation of your order (or part of your order). Please quote your order number on all correspondence. On receipt of the goods, Mary Rose Trading Ltd will give you a full refund of the amount paid or an exchange as required.

The contract in respect of sale of goods between Mary Rose Trading Ltd and you requires that you return the goods to Mary Rose Trading Ltd on cancellation. This does not affect your statutory rights. Please read through our Return Policy in the paragraph below for details of how to return goods to us.

Damaged or Defective Goods

If you receive an item that is damaged or defective, we will either replace the goods or refund to you the price of the goods as required. Simply return the goods to us with a proof of purchase.

We are happy to refund or exchange within 14 days of purchase if the item is damaged or defective, you will need to email  to us your purchase information in order for us to process your refund or exchange.
